Applicants for the Street Tech program must be 18 or older, and residents of California. Applicants should also fall into one of two categories in order to be eligible for participation: disadvantaged or at-risk.

Disadvantaged: low-income or moderate-income households (under current definitions, this means income of no more than $64,100 for a family of four.

At-risk: involvement in the juvenile and/or adult justice system, a record of drug or alcohol abuse, single parents on public assistance, or current residence in high-crime, low-income neighborhoods.

A high school diploma or equivalent is NOT necessary for participation in Street Tech.
In order to be admitted to Street Tech, the applicants will have to complete an application for admission, submit a one-page essay relaying their desire for entry to our program, and complete the Testing Adult Basic Education exam with a passing score of 7.0-8.0 or higher.

Street Tech accepts referrals from parents, teachers, schools, the Employment and Human Services Department, community-based organizations, and representatives of the juvenile and adult justice system. Candidates may also recommend themselves. If Street Tech does not approve candidates for participation in the program, we will assist them with referrals to other appropriate programs, and welcome them to re-apply during a subsequent class cycle.
